THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS
th eunited states in the 1970s was faced with many negitive and poitive event, the middle east crisis is definitly one of the more negitive events during the 1970s. the middle east crisis was a period that began in 1973 when OPEC embagoed the sale of oil products to the united states due to the support of isreal during the yum-kippur war. during this period gas prises skyrocketed and forced many people to jurastically decrease there amount of travel. in addition to the less travel gas was also rationed. bases on licence plate numbers gas was only allowed to be purchased on certain days and no gas sales took place on sundays at all. the increase in gas prices and the decrease in travel led to people spending less money. when people began not spending money the economy began to deminish and the united states was led into a less than favorable economic situation,a ressession. the middle east crisis caused a period where americans were very unconfident in there leadership and economy as well as a downward spiral in relations with the middle east crisis.this event caused some speculation and disagreement within NATO on rather they should help or not with a peace keeping situation in the middle east or not. adventually the united states did help organize a peace keeping situation and adventually resolved the situation, the crisis came to an end in 1974. the lasting impact of the middle east crisis is still seen today as the united states still faces problems with high gasoline and oil prices to this day due to opec, the united states still struggles with realations with middle east countrys. this crisis tested the power of american leadership and forighn policy and has left a lasting impact in history.
